I was inspired to write this post based on one of my most recent denim purchases – white skinny jeans. Every year I hunt for the perfect pair of white denim to get me through spring and summer. After many purchases, I’ve learned that far too many things can go wrong with white pants. So today I’m rounding up a few tips I take with me when I go white jean shopping. Keep scrolling for a full guide to buying white jeans!
White jeans are so fun and easy to style this time of year – the challenge is finding the right pair. Over the years, I learned to avoid all the fashion faux pas associated with white pants – too tight, too long, too sheer…the list goes on. The key to finding the perfect white pants is all about focusing on the details – cut, color, length, size and material. These small but important details will make all the difference! Here are a few of the things I look for when shopping for white jeans.
A GUIDE TO FINDING THE PERFECT WHITE JEANS FOR SUMMER
SIZE: Always Size UP
We often get caught up with sizes and how small a size we can fit into. I totally get it. But the truth is, there’s no shame in going up a size or two when it comes to white pants. Especially when buying stretch denim. White will always be less forgiving, so do yourself a favor and size up for a much more comfortable and flattering fit.
CUT: Go for a Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans
The cut will depend on your body type, but a mid-rise skinny is a safe bet (if you follow my sizing instructions above, this cut will work on anyone!) A tailored leg creates a beautiful silhouette and mid- rise is most flattering. As we all know, white shows everything so if you’re looking to slim your midsection rather than highlight it, go for jeans where the button falls just below your belly button. They’ll be high enough to suck you in but not so high they show everything.
LENGTH: Ankle length is Best.
The best length denim to wear during the summer should hit right at your ankle bone or slightly above. They won’t drag or bunch and they’re the perfect length to show off your cute summer sandals! I’d also recommend pairing your ankle length white denim with nude shoes to help elongate your legs (these are my favorite nude heels). If you find the perfect pair of white jeans but they’re not short enough – cut off the hem! Raw hems are still a huge trend so just take a pair of scissors them. MATERIAL: Opt for a Thick Material.
Sometimes finding the perfect pair of jeans comes down to the material content. You could have the best cut denim, but with a cheap or thin material your white jeans can look unflattering in so many ways. Look for a heavier material. The thicker the material, the less see-through and more likely they are to camouflage imperfections. Just make sure the material is breathable to keep you cool for summer!
COLOR: Go for WHITE.
Not ivory, not cream…white. Save the off-white colors for fall and winter and grab yourself a pair of bright white jeans for now. A crisp white will look better paired with all your colorful summer tops! Bright white will also make a summer tan look that much better.
Taking my own advice, I found the perfect pair of white jeans for summer. They’re skinny, mid-rise, ankle length denim with just the right amount of stretch and coverage. Best tip I can give you – go up 2 sizes in these for a comfy and flattering fit. They come in a raw hem version too! I’ve been a longtime fan of A Gold E denim and these white skinny jeans are no exception! As for those “rules” that say you can’t wear white before Memorial Day / after Labor Day? I don’t follow them. I love breaking out my white pants in early spring and often carry them into the fall – making the most of my white skinnies year round.
