Don’t worry the tradition continues! The annual Community Carol Sing at Mystic Seaport will be held Sunday, December 20, from 3 to 4 p.m. For 73 years the Museum has held this event and 2020 will be no exception, although this year’s Carol Sing will look a little different from past years.
To accommodate a safe and socially distant event due to COVID-19, the singalong will be held as a drive-in at the Museum’s south parking lot. The songs will be broadcast so carolers can tune in on their car radio and join in the festivities. The music will be lead by University of Connecticut’s Director of Choral Studies Jamie Spillane backed by a brass quartet and a socially distanced choir.
Admission to the event is non-perishable food, diapers/wipes, or pet food, which will be donated to the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. Donors also receive free admission to the Museum that day until 3:45 p.m.
The parking lot opens at 1 p.m. and space is limited to 500 visitors. The event is first-come, first-served. Festive decorations on vehicles are encouraged with prizes for the most spirited autos.
The Carol Sing is followed by the final night of the Museum’s holiday Lantern Light Village. After 3 :45 p.m., visitors and members may purchase tickets for the Lantern Light Village at the gate for a 5, 6, or 7 p.m. arrival.
Cost: Free
Tickets may also be purchased in advance online.
